La prima vedere, se pare că timpul s-a oprit în loc în satul Kyrgyz din Barskon. Nurbek, protagonistul filmului, a lucrat 10 ani în mina de aur din regiune, cunscută sub numele Kumtor. Acesta este locul de unde Tomáš Kudrna documentează cu fidelilate forma neobişnuită a capitalismului şi democraţiei care domină într-o ţară ce seamănă cu un muzeu sovietic în aer liber. Noi vedem certurile mărunte dintre localnici şi privim evenimentele din 1998, atunci cînd două tone de cianură s-au scurs din mina Kumtor în rîu şi sute de săteni au fost otrăviţi..

At first glance, time seems to have stood still in the Kyrgyz village of Barskon. Nurbek, the main protagonist in the film, has been working for 10 years in the local gold mine known as Kumtor. This is the place where Tomáš Kudrna faithfully documents the peculiar form of capitalism and democracy that prevails in a country that looks like an open-air Soviet museum. We see the petty disputes between the locals and look at the events of 1998, when two tonnes of cyanide leaked into the river from the Kumtor mine and poisoned hundreds of villagers.
